San Francisco J/105 Fleet #1Our J/105 fleet takes full advantage of the beautiful and iconic playground of San Francisco Bay with organized racing year round.
From March to October we schedule both an “A” championship series of 7-8 regattas including the ultimate Rolex Big Boat Series and a “B” series of several popular club and YRA events such as the Great Vallejo Race. In our off-season from November through February we participate in a Winter One Design series run by RegattaPRO, when nature provides us a change of pace with generally light air (yet with an occasional ferocious storm).
J/105 sailors may be amateurs and weekend warriors, but our competition is world-class and our racing is close and exciting. Combining simplicity, toughness, and a sailplan that relishes a stiff breeze, the J/105 is ideal for the conditions of San Francisco Bay. J/105 racing favors boat-handling skill and tactics over brute strength, so our 6-person teams tend to be diverse in gender, age, and size… making our regattas more competitive and social. The number of boats and longevity of the fleet (sailing since 1991) ensures plenty of support from boatyards and sailmakers, and there are many sailors with J/105 experience willing to jump on board to crew or help form a new team.
