Pacific Coast Championship Results Race 3, June 8th and 9th
Race 3 Pacific Coast Championships, Sunday June 9, 2002
The day began with a weather forecast of 15 to 25 knots W to NW becoming 15 to 30 Knots in the afternoon - rather similar to Saturday's morning forecast. As it turned out, the breeze was northerly to challenge the Race Committee, who set a course parallel with the Southampton Shoal for the first race. We were given Course 1, a double sausage, and the breeze ranged from 10 to 20 knots from a NNE to NE direction. The current was flooding during the race, favoring the southern side of the course in the first upwind leg. During the first downwind leg, the boats that did well were those who stayed to the shallower, North, side of the course, and on the second downwind leg, those boats staying in the center chose the best balance of tide and wind strength. The first five home were Zuni Bear, Charade, Blackhawk, Whisper, and Capricorn. Kookaburra was dead last at the first weather mark and finished seventh. Craig Mudge, Kookaburra.
